Barcelona Metro Hours: Weekend Service, Special Nights and NitBus
Opening hours for every day of the week, the nights the Metro never stops, and how to get home on the NitBus when it does.

The Barcelona Metro runs from 5:00 to midnight Monday to Thursday and on Sundays, until 2:00 on Fridays and the nights before public holidays, and all night from Saturday into Sunday, according to TMB as of November 2026. When the Metro is closed, the NitBus night buses run from about 10 pm to 6 am, with almost every line passing through Plaça de Catalunya.
What are the Metro hours by day?
The times below are TMB’s published schedule for the Metro network. The closing time is when the last train leaves the terminus at each end of a line, so the last train through a central station passes later than the time shown.
| Day | Hours (as of November 2026) |
|---|---|
| Monday to Thursday, and midweek public holidays | 5:00 to midnight |
| Fridays and nights before public holidays | 5:00 to 2:00 |
| Saturdays | From 5:00, continuous service through Saturday night into Sunday |
| Sundays | Service ends at midnight |
| 24 December | 5:00 to 23:00 |
A few stations on the southern branches of L9 and L10, which serve the logistics and port area (Mas Blau, Mercabarna, Parc Logístic, ZAL Riu Vell, Ecoparc, Port Comercial and La Factoria), keep fixed hours every day: 5:00 to midnight, and until 23:00 on 24 December.
The Montjuïc Funicular, which connects with the Metro at Paral·lel and is run by TMB, keeps shorter hours. From 26 October 2026 to 28 March 2027 it runs 7:30 to 20:00 on weekdays and 9:00 to 20:00 on weekends and public holidays. From 29 March 2027 the closing time moves to 22:00.
The Metro shares the integrated fare system with buses and trains, so the same ticket works at night; see our guide to Barcelona transport passes for which one fits you.
Which nights does the Metro run all night?
Besides every Saturday night, TMB lists three fixed dates with continuous service:
- 23 June, the eve of Sant Joan: all night from 23 to 24 June.
- 23 September, the eve of La Mercè: all night from 23 to 24 September. During the festival TMB sometimes adds extra all-night services; check the announcements around the dates of La Mercè.
- 31 December: all night through New Year’s Eve.
On the night of Sant Joan and New Year’s Eve, trains and stations near the beach and the main squares get crowded and some exits may be closed for safety. Plan your route home before midnight.
What replaces the Metro at night?
The NitBus is the night bus network for Barcelona and the nearby towns of the metropolitan fare area. Barcelona City Council describes it as running from approximately 10 pm to 6 am, with times varying by line.
- Line numbers start with N (N1, N2 and so on).
- All lines stop at Plaça de Catalunya except N0, so you can change lines there.
- According to TMB, the network covers Barcelona and reaches as far as the first metropolitan ring of neighboring towns.
- Frequencies are lower than daytime buses; check the timetable for your stop rather than turning up on chance.
On most nights there is a gap between the last Metro and the first one at 5:00, and the NitBus covers it. Ordinary daytime bus lines also run into the late evening, and some start early in the morning; each stop’s timetable is on TMB’s website and app.
What about regional trains and the airport at night?
Rodalies (regional rail) and FGC trains follow their own timetables and do not run all night on ordinary days. Check the line you need on rodalies.gencat.cat or the FGC website. Our Rodalies guide explains the lines and tickets.
For early flights, check the first Metro train on L9 Sud and the first train or bus to the airport for your date, and compare with a taxi at night tariff. The airport transport guide lists all the options.
How do you check live service and disruptions?
- Open TMB’s operating hours page for the schedule of the day, including special dates.
- Use TMB’s network status page or the TMB App for live Metro incidents and real-time bus arrivals (the iBus system).
- For NitBus and other metropolitan buses, check the Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona (AMB) route search or its app.
- Before strike days, look for the minimum services announced by TMB and the Generalitat.
Planned works sometimes close sections of a Metro line for days or weeks, with replacement buses. TMB announces them on the same status page.
Bottom line
If you are out on a weekday, the Metro stops at midnight, so note the NitBus line and stop for your address before you go out. On Saturday nights and the three all-night dates you can rely on the Metro, but expect crowds and closed exits around the big celebrations.
