Barcelona’s 2026 taxi fares start with a €2.80 flag fall, then €1.35 per km on weekdays from 8 am to 8 pm and €1.66 per km at night, on Saturdays and on public holidays. Trips to or from the airport add €4.60, with a €21.00 minimum from the airport, as of November 2026.

Who sets taxi fares in Barcelona?

Fares for the black-and-yellow taxis are set each year by the AMB (Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona, the metropolitan authority) through its taxi body, the IMET (Institut Metropolità del Taxi). The 2026 urban tariffs rose by a weighted average of 2.3% over 2025. They apply to trips within Barcelona and the other municipalities of the metropolitan area. If your trip starts or ends outside that area, the meter switches to the interurban tariffs set by the Generalitat. The full table is on the AMB taxi fares page.

How much does a taxi cost?

Tariff When it applies Flag fall Per km Waiting, per hour
T-1 Monday to Friday, 8 am to 8 pm €2.80 €1.35 €27.75
T-2 Weekdays 8 pm to 8 am, Saturdays and public holidays €2.80 €1.66 €27.75
T-3 Fixed price, booked through an approved app Set in the app Set in the app Included
T-4 Airport to the cruise terminal (Moll Adossat), either way €46 fixed Included Included

Figures from the AMB, as of November 2026. The T-3 minimum is €8 and the T-4 price includes all supplements. Tolls are extra if you choose a toll route, and you pay them both ways.

As a worked example, an 8 km trip on a weekday afternoon with no waiting comes to €13.60 on the meter (€2.80 plus 8 × €1.35). The same distance at night or on a Saturday comes to €16.08 (€2.80 plus 8 × €1.66), about €2.50 more for the identical route. Any waiting time is added at €27.75 an hour, and any supplements come on top of that.

Which supplements can be added?

Supplement Amount When
Airport €4.60 Trip starts or ends at the airport
Port (Moll Adossat cruise terminal) €4.60 Trip starts or ends there
Fira Gran Via (L’Hospitalet) €3.30 Trip starts there
Sants station €2.55 Trip starts there
Vehicle for 5 to 8 passengers €4.60 Larger vehicle used for a group
Special nights €4.60 8 pm to 8 am on 23–24 June, 24–25 December and 31 December–1 January

The station supplement only applies when you are picked up at Sants, not when you are dropped off there. The minimum fare for trips starting at the airport is €21.00 including all supplements, so a short hop to a hotel near the terminals still costs that much. Our guide to getting from the airport to the city compares the taxi with the train, metro and bus.

How do fixed-price app fares work?

Tariff T-3 lets you agree a closed price before the trip, but only through booking apps run by companies that meet the Catalan rules and are approved by the IMET. The price includes the drive to pick you up and five minutes of waiting, and the meter shows zero during the trip. The minimum is €8. For any radio or app booking, the company must tell you the minimum fare and the maximum pickup charge before you confirm.

Radio and app bookings charged on the meter also carry a minimum, from €8 as of November 2026.

How do you pay and complain?

You can pay by card. Under the AMB’s metropolitan taxi regulation, card readers or an equivalent mobile payment system have been compulsory in every licensed taxi since 1 January 2017. If the reader is broken, the driver must get it repaired as a priority and may have to justify it to the IMET if you complain. At a rank you may choose a different taxi for objective reasons, and card payment is one of them.

Always ask for the printed receipt. It shows the licence number, the driver’s tax ID (NIF), the plate, the price and the date, and you need it for any complaint.

To complain about a taxi:

  1. Keep the receipt with the licence number, NIF, plate, fare and date.
  2. File the complaint with the IMET, online through the AMB taxi website or by post, attaching a copy of the receipt.
  3. For lost or damaged luggage or a dispute over the amount charged, you can also go to the Junta Arbitral del Transport de Catalunya (Catalonia’s transport arbitration board).

Bottom line

Before a long ride, check whether your trip crosses out of the metropolitan area, because the fare rules change at that boundary. And take the receipt every time, even if all went well: it is the only thing that identifies the car later.

FAQ

How much is a taxi from the airport to the center?

It depends on traffic and the tariff. The meter runs on T-1 or T-2, plus the €4.60 airport supplement, with a €21.00 minimum as of November 2026. The metro and train are far cheaper with the right transport pass.

Are Uber and Cabify taxis?

Not necessarily. Some apps book licensed taxis; others use private hire vehicles (VTC) under different rules. Only licensed taxis follow the AMB tariffs above.

Can a driver refuse a short trip?

Licensed taxis provide a public service under the AMB regulation. If you believe a driver refused you without a valid reason, note the licence number and complain to the IMET.
