Barcelona Transport Passes: T-casual, T-usual or T-jove?

Barcelona's integrated tickets work on metro, bus, tram, FGC and Rodalies inside your zones. Here is which one fits a visitor, a new resident or a family.

For most Barcelona residents the best ticket is the T-usual: unlimited travel for 30 days in zone 1 for €22.80 as of November 2026. Occasional riders do better with the T-casual, 10 journeys for €13.00, and under-30s should buy the T-jove, 90 days across all zones for €45.50.

How do fare zones work?

Barcelona’s integrated fare system, run by the Autoritat del Transport Metropolità (ATM), divides the region into seven zones. The whole city of Barcelona is in zone 1, and so is the airport. A ticket for one zone lets you combine metro, TMB buses, tram, FGC trains and Rodalies trains within that zone, with transfers counted as one journey. You only need a 2-zone or 3-zone ticket for trips further out, such as Sabadell, Terrassa or the coast.

How much does each ticket cost?

Ticket What you get 1 zone 2 zones 3 zones
Single ticket (bitllet senzill) 1 trip on metro and TMB buses only €2.90 €4.15 €5.40
T-casual 10 journeys, one person at a time €13.00 €25.50 €34.70
T-usual Unlimited, 30 days, personal €22.80 €30.55 €42.70
T-jove Unlimited, 90 days, under 30s, all zones €45.50 €45.50 €45.50
T-familiar 8 journeys in 30 days, shareable €11.50 €21.75 €30.80
T-grup 70 journeys in 30 days, shareable €91.00 €178.50 €242.90
T-dia Unlimited for 24 hours, one person €12.00 €18.30 €22.95

Prices are from ATM and TMB as of November 2026. The T-usual and T-jove prices include a 50% discount backed by the Spanish government, which ATM kept for 2026. Fares usually change in January, so check again after New Year.

Which ticket suits you?

  • You commute most days: T-usual. From about 18 journeys a month it costs less than buying T-casuals, and it covers the airport metro stations.
  • You are under 30: T-jove. It covers all seven zones for 90 days, so trips to towns further out in the seven-zone area, such as Sabadell or Terrassa, cost nothing extra.
  • You travel a few times a week: T-casual. A journey can include up to three transfers within 75 minutes for a 1-zone ticket, with 15 minutes more for each extra zone.
  • Two or more people riding together now and then: T-familiar, which several people can use on the same trip. A household with heavy use can look at the T-grup.
  • A visitor with one busy sightseeing day: T-dia, which also allows one return trip to the airport metro stations.

Which tickets work at the airport?

The airport is in zone 1, but the metro stations Aeroport T1 and Aeroport T2 on line L9 Sud have special rules. ATM says the T-usual and T-jove are valid there without restriction, the T-dia allows one return trip, and the T-casual, T-familiar and T-grup are not valid at those two stations. With those tickets you can take the Rodalies train or a bus instead, or buy the metro airport ticket, €5.90 as of November 2026. Our guide to getting from El Prat airport to the city compares the options.

What about Hola Barcelona?

Hola Barcelona is TMB’s visitor card with unlimited travel for 24, 48, 72, 96 or 120 hours from first use. It covers metro, TMB buses, NitBus, the Montjuïc funicular, tram, and FGC and Rodalies trains in zone 1, plus one outbound and one return metro trip to the airport. TMB offers 10% off online. It is aimed at short stays; for a week or longer, a T-usual or T-jove is usually better value once you live here. Check the current price on the TMB site, which updates it with the yearly fare review.

How do you buy and load a pass?

Integrated tickets now live on T-mobilitat, the contactless system:

  1. Choose a support: a personalized plastic card (€4.50), a mobile virtual wallet on an NFC phone (€1.00), or a cardboard card from a ticket machine (€1.00 extra).
  2. For the T-usual and T-jove, use a personalized support, because the ticket is tied to the registered holder.
  3. Top up at any ticket machine, an official sales point or the T-mobilitat app.
  4. Tap in at the start of each journey and on every transfer.

The T-jove holder must carry valid official ID that matches the registered name.

Are there discounts for children, seniors or low incomes?

Yes. ATM’s discounted fares include the T-16 for children and young teenagers, cheaper T-usual and T-jove versions for members of large and single-parent families with a Generalitat family card, and a subsidized T-usual for some unemployed jobseekers who meet income and registration conditions. The AMB runs its own metropolitan passes, such as the pink card (targeta rosa) for some older and disabled residents. Conditions and prices change, so check the ATM discounted fares page and the AMB before you buy. If you think you qualify, apply before buying a full-price T-usual, because the discount is loaded onto a personalized T-mobilitat card.

Bottom line

If you have just moved to Barcelona, set up a personalized T-mobilitat card or phone wallet in your first week and load a T-usual, or a T-jove if you are under 30. Keep a T-casual on a cardboard card for guests, but remember it does not work at the airport metro stations.

FAQ

Can two people share a T-casual?

Not at the same time. It can pass between people on different trips, but only one person can use it per journey. For shared trips, use the T-familiar or T-grup.

Do Rodalies trains accept these tickets?

Yes, within the zones on your ticket. Our guide to Rodalies trains around Barcelona explains lines and disruptions.

Do old tickets expire when prices change?

Yes. ATM let tickets bought at 2025 prices be used until 28 February 2026, and until 30 April for the T-jove. Expect a similar window after the next fare change.

Are taxis covered?

No. Taxis use separate metered fares set by the AMB; see our guide to Barcelona taxi fares.
